This was beneficial to use, when showing up to the set and putting up equipment, I knew what risks had to be considered from looking at this table and seeing whether the following hazards were potential risks. Below I have also included the more personal risks that could've occurred, as I had to develop an assessment of the potential risks we as a team could've faced as the risks shown above did need to be considered, but we were doing slightly different projects so we had to be careful of more specific aspect of the project.
When shooting with the crane, I was very aware of everything being set up properly and locked to it holdings. This was very important as the crane was being held directly above the actress playing Ivy, so I was very conscious of the camera falling on her during filming. In order to prevent this, I took extra care and checked with several people that the camera was properly fitted to the crane. I was also careful to place the crane above her so she would have the opportunity to more out the way if something were to fall. This took careful positioning as I didn't want to compromise the shot I needed to capture, but also put the actress in danger, so placing the crane different and ensuring the camera was fitted tight was the safest possible way to prevent any risk.
There were a few situations when filming that involved potential risks that were required to be considered and prevented before filming. The screenshot below is an example of the location we used that was cause for potential risks occurring.
As we were filming on a road, it was very important that a risk assessment was carried out as our actress would be walking on this road a lot and we needed to set equipment up on this road as well. For this scene in particular, it was important that we had someone checking the road at all times, to prevent putting the actress in danger, as she would've been concentrating on working in stead on minding the road, so she may not have seen something in time to get out the way if not warned before hand. Placing the equipment on the road was also a risk we had to assess, as if there were cars coming on the road, equipment would have to be moved when filming the shot shown below. For this frame, we placed the crane on the road therefore it was essential that we followed safe working practices to ensure we could move the crane quickly and safely if a car did come.
The screenshot below shows the proposal scene I shot in garden. This is not obvious, but the actors are positioned under two tree either side of them during filming. Due to this, there was a risk of branches falling on them when filming, however assessing the probability of these came to very unlikely as the trees are in good condition. Therefore, major pro-cautions were not entirely necessary to take as the actors were pretty safe, however in order to prevent anything from happening, I positioned them between the two tress but where the least amount of branches were, in order to reduce the risk of a larger branch falling on them.
Filming with the crane in general was considered quite a large risk, as there was potential for pieces of equipment e.g the camera, when attached to the crane, falling off and possibly hitting a crew or cast member. If order to prevent this, I took double checks on all the equipment attached and made sure everything was secured, I then asked a second party to check it to ensure it was checked thoroughly. As the crane and camera were being positioned directly above one of the actors when filming the car crash scene, I was especially careful of this to ensure the cast member was not put into any danger when filming. The image below shows the shot I took with the crane and the angle at which it was positioned, demonstrating the potential risk the actress was under when filming this shot.
